It is very cold out here now. Icing up the gear at night and yours truly. I do not like fishing this cold weather but it could pay off. A few shorties were caught in the Indian River Inlet yesterday (Sunday) on flies long lining at the rail. The birds are working the water near the coast guard station and out front on the rock walls. They are working the ends of the walls like crazy. I was there at a dead low tide and took some video. No one was fishing the northern beaches up to Conquest Beach I also dropped by the Kite beach (New rd bay access) on my way to the inlet and the low tide from the winds was the lowest I have ever seen. There could not have been more than 6 inches of water over most of the “flats” area. Someone was setting up to kite board I have no idea how they can do that in such shallow water. The tide was just starting to turn at 1 p.m. when I left the inlet. I dropped by 3R’s beach in Delaware Seashore State Park just to check things out, there were a few trucks on the beach.
Chris Guest hit Cape Henlopen State Park today and surf fished Herring Point Beach near the jetty. He didn’t catch anything and said the wind eventually made it too unbearable to stay past 11 a.m. He visited the Pier and it was deserted. He did get some very cool pictures (literally) several are on the DSF Facebook page. The foam was frozen at the water’s edge near the pier. The tide was rather low today and the water was very calm. Beautiful clear sky at the beach just very cold. Bests my day working in the cold…..Chris…“It was cold, about 26 when I got there but really not that bad until the breeze started picking up around 11 a.m. The breeze and no bites from the aquatic life made my decision to head home pretty easy.”….Thanks Chris
Still some hope for the stripers if you can take the low temps. Rain forecasted for all day tomorrow so that will be an added factor.
