Happy 4th gang, stay safe, and be careful. Please, remember what this day is really all about. I am out of the picture the next day or so, I have that summer cold, again. I don’t think it ever went away, and I am on the “fly” way too much. So everyone is yelling at me to slow it down, I have. I am supposed to fish with many of you this holiday week, and I can not, for fear of getting you sick on your vacation, I live here, so I can suck it up. The weather looks nice out of the window. Scattered showers will occur, but not last long. We will see how the day pans out, I may be around by Friday. I am supposed to do a surf fishing overnighter tonight, sorry guys. This Saturday night, playing at the Sandbar Tavern … Loud Love … and DSF should be there. It will be an awesome show, those boys can rip the roof off any venue. So, what is happening out there …
Vic Minio popped 2 keeper flounders, at the Indian river Inlet … “28 inch 8.5 lb. & a 20 inch from the rail Saturday.” Way to go Vic! You guys need to enter the Rick’s Bait & Tackle flounder tournament. That 8.5 pounder would be first place, just sayin. The tournament lasts until Labor Day weekend, sign up today. I have seen many flounder in the past week, that would qualify for the top 3 places. You can sign up for the tournament at Rick’s Bait & Tackle. Jason Duncan and his crew dropped their boat in for a little shark fishing this week. He nailed a 3 pound shad from the boat dock that night.
Dave Reirden was surf fishing yesterday … “Just got back from a couple of hours at broadkill. Lots of very small croaker on chicken, and fish bites. Lots of green heads as well. Ouch!!!!!” Yup, the green heads are here in full force, worse with a westerly wind. Those flies are annoying, hit one, it falls to ground, you think it is dead, only to watch it fly off, and come back for more. Tough little buggers (pun intended), and they hurt! After you hit one, step on it, or your going to be sorry. I do not know what it is about boats, but the flies will follow you around the river it seems. So take your bug juice, and believe it or not a small towel, or flyswatter does wonders. If you hang the towel from the back of your shorts, it works like a horse’s tail on the back of your legs, I kid you not! As long as you do not use it as a fish rag, then the exact opposite will happen, but your friends near you will appreciate the sacrifice. The fly swatter I will assume, is self explanatory.
Presently, Chris Fortner is on 3R’s beach access, hammering small trout on blood worms. Some of the boys are at Massey’s popping croaker. There is spot in the bays, all over the place. Flounder pounding is happening, and some small stripers. Boss Dog Miles, will be home soon with his owner Bryan Hecksher of Auto Gallery. Miles was in a bad accident, and is starting to recover well. I know many were worried about him. I am, as you know, laid up, and the reports coming in are killing me, I want to go surf fishing, float in a boat, hit the rail, jockey the rocks, catch crabs ,and go clammin’ mon!! :( I may sneak off, if I feel better later. The joy of being single, there is no one around to stop you from doing something stupid. :) Speaking of which …
Fish On!!
